Better Than Sliced Beats! - SGX Remix CD Project |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE ALBUM ART ENTRY HERE Voting ends August 4th. Introducing the SGX remix CD project! I need your help! I'm looking for people to remix, rearrange, or otherwise re-invision some of my music for inclusion on a album that will be available for purchase from cafepress.com . You will be in charge of providing the music, and I will be in charge of getting the CD professionally printed and available. What I'm looking for: High quality interpretations on any of my songs from my album Synesthetic and earlier. This means you can work on any song on my site that is not already a remix, and is not Distant, Crowdpleaser, Composer, Deep Breath, or Hypnorhythm(since I didn't write that one) . Remember that there ARE a lot of old tracks at the bottom of my music page. I would love some of my older tracks remixed. You can do ANY on the site other than the ones mentioned above. You can remix, arrange, do anything you like. It does not have to be a "remix" in the manner that OCRemix calls remixes (which are actually arrangements). You can take audio pieces of my original songs and change them, build a new song around them (see below for info on obtaining source materials). Be creative. Either way works. Please keep the song below six minutes in length. If you absolutely must go over, then that may or may not be doable. It really depends on how many useable songs I recieve for the album. Multiple submissions are welcome. It is possible that I will take multiple remixes of the same songs, but it is less likely that I will take a second remix of a song than a remix of a not yet covered song. I encourage people to go to this thread at ocremix.org to discuss who will be "claiming" which song and decide what to work on. Also, multiple remixes from the same artist will be less likely to be included, depending on how many good submissions I get for the CD or not. Give the mix a name followed by the original name. For example: Adjusting to Reality (Super Awesome Mix) or something with your name in it like Contradistinction (DJ RoxSox Mix). I will also be looking for an album cover design. Anyone can submit, and multiple submissions are welcome. The cover design must include my (new) logo in some manner. You can change the colors, effect it, etc, as long as the main shape and dimensions are kept intact. See below for source materials and templates. Compensation: I would like to compensate all of the artists who are included in the album for participating, but at the same time, I think that determining shares, splitting profits, and sending out money to around ten different people for their work will be complicated and problematic. I don't really want to profit off of work that I already feel like is a favor to me, so I will price the CD so that I will make back roughly what it cost me to send out the free CD's to the winners. Breaking even is my goal. Previously, the plan was to get the CD printed by a CD duplicating company and then have cdbaby.com do the online distribution. I've reconsidered that due to the fact that I have NO clue how many people would actually buy the album. Cafepress doesn't print up CD's untill they are ordered, so I would not have to make an estimate on how many CD's I would sell, pay to get them printed, then ship them to cdbaby. Also, in case demand is more than I had estimated, I would not have to go back and get another run of CD's printed and sent to cdbaby. Cafepress will never run out. Going with cafepress will make the CD more expensive, but its just a much lower risk and convenient solution for me. Cafepress's base price for CD's with cases and printing is $8.99. I'm going to raise the price to $9.99 so that I make $1 on each CD to pay for the free CD's I will send to the winners. Every artist who's work is included on the album (including the CD cover) will get a free copy of the album sent to them. EVERY submission I get (both music and album art), regardless of if it will be included on the album, will be featured for viewing/download on the remix album page on my site except in the case of severe crappyness. I will mess with the tags a bit, so that my url is included in there somewhere, but your artist name will be in the artist field in the tag. I might write a little something about your remix, and I'll link to your email or website if you request it. Source Materials: Music: I can provide Reason 2.5 source files, the original .wav master file for the song, or a collection of .wav loops from the song. Unfortunately I can't say exactly which songs I have any of those files for, as I've lost pieces of the original source files for a lot of my music, some were made partly with other programs such as Acid Pro and Sonar, and to list exactly what I have would take me a long time here. If you want something, contact me and ask me specifically for the file. AIM name SuperGreenX, email me, or PM me at the ocremix boards. Album cover: This is the layout of the logo: Here is a multilayered high resolution tiff image that you can manipulate for the album cover. Logo (11 mb) You may change colors if you like. The shape must stay the same. And here is a template for album covers: template Submissions: For music, please encode your song as a 128kbps mp3. If you have webspace, please upload it and then email it to sgxmusic@hotmail.comSPAM. Otherwise, just email me the file. I will only be hosting 128kbps mp3's on my site, so don't encode any differently. If you want your email or website linked to next to your song, tell me so in the submission email. Also, tell me exactly by what name you would like to be known as on the album. Title your email "Remix Submission." If I choose your song for inclusion on the album, I will email you back and ask for a 16 bit 44.1 .wav file and your mailing address for sending the free copy of the album to. We will use www.yousendit.com to transfer the final wavs. For album art, just send me a decent sized JPG of your work, your name as you would like it known associated with this project, and your email and/or web address if you would like me to link to it. If yours is chosen, I'll reply and ask you for the high quality image or original photoshop file. The art must include the "Better Than Sliced Beats! - SGX Remix Project" title, and my logo somewhere in it. I enjoy simple, stylish, minimal design as much as I do stuff with many photoshop layers and filters and all that. It's up to me! As for which album cover I choose and what songs I choose, all I can say is that its up to me. I want to pick the ones that are my favorites, and I can't really tell you exactly what type of submissions will be the most to my liking. I want to pick the ones I like best and the ones that I feel would add the most and fit the best in this compilation album. I will not be explaining why I DIDN'T pick a particular submission, but I might explain why I chose the ones that I did. I will reply to your submission email to tell you that I have recieved the submission and to confirm that I have listened to your song, so you know that when I listed the songs I've chosen for inclusion and yours is not listed, it is not because I lost or haven't heard your submission. If you can't take rejection, then please don't submit. If you have issue with any way this is run (aka usage of your music/art, money, etc), then don't submit. Realize that this is run by me, all decisions are ultimately up to me. I want to make everyone happy, so I hope you would trust me, but if you have doubts about someone else handling your creative works and money, etc, then don't participate. There are no contracts or legal things being used in this. Due date: July 20th. July 20th! For both art and music. If you are late, sorry! These are final products. Don't send me incomplete works. I will decide on what I have on July 20th. Hopefully I will be able to get the CD printed and for sale before the end of summer. Backup plan: If I don't get enough quality submissions, or something goes really wrong somehow, I'll chose one or two tracks and put them as bonus tracks on the reprint of my Synesthetic album that I am planning. In that case, I will not be using any of the art submissions. Sorry.
Anything I forgot? I'm open to suggestions on how to run this if you have any. Thanks a lot to anyone who participates! This should be really cool when it is done.
